Postdoctoral position CEDEUS/ Deadline: November 20th, 2018

The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Center for Sustainable Urban Development CEDEUS (www.cedeus.cl) is seeking applications for a postdoctoral researcher with a background in sustainable building design, environmental modeling, green infrastructure or alike, to work on the “built environment for a sustainable urban interaction with critical resources”research line of CEDEUS.

The successful candidate is expected to initiate and perform research on the performance and integration of urban strategies to mitigate socio-environmental impacts of urban development and cities, such as the heat island effect, stream ecosystems detriments or water and air pollution, while enhancing urban growth and livability. This research is expected to provide the scientific basis for the optimization of existent urban areas and the design of future ones, by studying how the design and architecture of the elements of the built environment must perform and be organized, in order to increase urban resiliency and fulfill global change adaptation in different climatic areas. Essential to this research is the ability to implementing numerical models for the prediction of heat and mass transfer processes involved in the performance of technological solutions and the scaling of impacts associated with them across temporal and spatial scales. Water, soil and air quality issues related to the operation and performance of those technologies will have to be incorporated in their integral assessment and the identification of potential co-benefits when implemented in practical applications.
