Postdoctoral Research Position in CEDEUS

Universidad Católica de Chile - is currently looking for a postdoctoral candidate, for a position based in Campus Concepción at Universidad de Concepción.

CEDEUS is an interdisciplinary research initiative which brings together leading researchers from different areas (Architecture, Engineering, Geography, Sociology, and Urban Planning) in the field of Sustainable Urban Development. The host university, Universidad de Concepción, is among the three top research institutions in the country, and the leader outside Santiago, offering a good quality of city and campus life. The mandate of the Centre is promoting learning and knowledge transfer, generating new ideas on critical issues of sustainable urban development in Chile and around the world. We have a number of ongoing projects on these issues, in which the successful applicant could participate, leading some projects, and collaborating with other researchers at the CEDEUS Centre on others with whom we are involved.

Job Description

We are seeking applicants with a Ph.D. in any area related to sustainable urban development. They must exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills and an aptitude for teamwork. It is advantageous to have earned a Ph.D. in an urban development sustainability related field, with a demonstrated research potential. We offer the attractive opportunity of a job working in an international, high level, and interdisciplinary academic setting.

Although individuals with interests in any research area regarding sustainable urban development are encouraged to apply, we particularly welcome those who could collaborate in any of the following topics:

- Urban Planning: Urban ethnography, citizenship and participation, urban culture, spatial-social exclusion, accessibility, urban sprawl, GIS and accessibility measures

- Built Environment: Urban heritage, public space and cityscape, housing policy

- Mobility and Transport: land use and transport, mobility and urban social exclusion, non-motorized modes (bicycle and pedestrians)

- Critical Resources: water reuse and resource recovery, integrated urban water management, vulnerability of urban water systems, green technologies.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a discipline related to sustainable urban development. It is important that the applicant be able to work collaboratively, with excellent oral and written communication skills and an aptitude for teamwork. International experience is desirable. Candidates need not to be fluent in Spanish; we encourage applications from within and outside Chile. Review of applications starts immediately and the position will remain open until a successful candidate has been found. The position starts in the beginning of 2014, and is for a period of at least one year; however, this is flexible for the right candidate.

Salary

1.400.000 Chilean pesos (less 10% taxes) are offered for a full time position.
